Glacial Landform, Permafrost, patterned ground, solifluction deposits, and pingos

Permafrost is ground that remains perennially frozen (see permafrost). It covers about 20 - 25 percent of the Earth's land surface today. The �active layer� of soil close to the surface of permafrost regions undergoes many seasonal and daily freeze-thaw cycles.
